😳 “Is This Normal?”:

Weird Pregnancy Symptoms Nobody Warned You About

Hi Mama!!

Today we’re going there — to the questions you’ve probably typed into Google at 2am in a private browser because they felt too weird to say out loud:

Is this normal?!

Spoiler: probably yes.

Pregnancy is a full-body, full-heart transformation… and sometimes, that comes with symptoms no one warned you about.

So in the spirit of honesty and solidarity, let’s do a deep dive into some of the most common “Wait, is this just me?” symptoms that are absolutely normal — even if they’re not exactly glamorous.

⚡ Lightning Crotch

Yes, it’s a thing. Sudden, sharp, zappy pain in the pelvic area, usually caused by baby’s position or nerve pressure. Feels like your cervix is getting electrocuted. Totally terrifying the first time, but harmless.

💧 Excess Saliva

Some pregnant women drool. A lot. It’s called ptyalism gravidarum, and it’s a hormonal side effect. I was super slurpy. Very fun if you’re already nauseous. Ginger candies and mint tea can help a little.

🍑 Hemorrhoids

Hello, swollen blood vessels. They show up thanks to increased pressure and hormones relaxing everything (including the veins around your rectum). Warm baths, witch hazel pads, and stool softeners are your new best friends.

🤲 Pregnancy Carpal Tunnel

Tingly, numb hands? Shooting pain when you grip something? That’s pregnancy-induced carpal tunnel, caused by fluid retention and swelling. My bestie couldn’t hold the spoon for her cereal in the morning! Wrist braces at night can help, and it usually resolves after birth.

😮‍💨 Out of Breath… Just From Talking

Thanks to increased blood volume and a baby pushing up on your diaphragm, your lungs are working overtime. Totally normal. Just take your time — you’re literally breathing for two.

😵 Dizziness or Feeling Faint

Hormones dilate your blood vessels, plus your blood sugar may dip quickly — especially in heat or when you stand too fast. Stay hydrated, snack often, and don’t lock your knees while standing.

😓 Night Sweats

Hormonal surges + increased metabolism = wake-up-in-a-puddle nights. Light layers, fans, and hydration help. And yes, it’s normal to feel like you’re sleeping in a sauna even in winter.

🧽 Strange Cravings (or Aversions)

Pickles and peanut butter? Totally fine. But if you’re craving non-food items like dirt or chalk, that could be pica — call your provider, because it might signal an iron deficiency. I know, right?! So weird.

🐘 Swelling in Hands, Feet, and Face

A little puffiness? Normal. Sausage toes? Also normal. Sudden or severe swelling with headaches? Not normal — get checked right away.

Here’s the truth: you’re not “too sensitive” or “too much.”

You’re pregnant.

Your body is doing a million microscopic miracles every day.

And yeah — sometimes that comes with butt pain and numb fingers.

But you’re not alone.

And you’re not doing it wrong.
