:💤 The Nap

Is Not Lazy

In partnership with

How you doin, mama? Feeling tired lately?

Feelin like this??

For my entire pregnancy, I needed a nap every day at 5pm. It was the end of my workday and I’d be just about to get up from sitting at my desk, but then it was like I had narcolepsy, lol. I would either nod off at my desk or get up just in time to make it to the couch before a 30-60 minute nap.

Shoot, there was a stretch during my first trimester when I needed to lie down just from folding laundry. 🤣

I remember sitting on the floor, halfway through a sock-matching pile, and thinking, “Am I just incredibly lazy now? Is this what pregnancy has turned me into?”

I didn't know then what I know now:

Rest in pregnancy isn’t lazy.

It’s biological. It’s sacred. And it’s so necessary.

We live in a culture that idolizes doing — go go go, check the boxes, crush the goals, be a superwoman.
But growing a human? That’s a full-time job your body is clocked into 24/7. Even while you’re “doing nothing.”

By about 9 weeks pregnant, your body has increased its blood volume by 50%. Fifty percent!!! Your heart is pumping harder. Your metabolism is shifting. Your hormones are a cocktail of sleepiness and wild dreams.
You are making a placenta from scratch, momma. This is a huge organ.

So yeah, you're tired.

Let’s call it what it really is: your body doing its deepest work.

🧠 The Science Behind the Sleepy

  • Progesterone, one of the major pregnancy hormones, has a natural sedative effect. It literally makes you feel drowsy.

  • Your body is redirecting energy to create new organs (like, say, a liver and a brain) for someone else. You are multitasking on a cosmic level.

  • Even in the second trimester, when energy tends to rise, your body is still working overtime to support your growing baby, your expanding blood supply, and all the emotional adjustments that come with this season.

❤️ Rest Is Resistance (In the Best Way)

I had to learn this the hard way, but now I fiercely protect my rest like the sacred ritual it is.

Because when you nap, you’re not falling behind — you’re tuning in.

You’re honoring the deep work happening in your womb and your bones.

You’re choosing trust over hustle.

And let me tell you — there is nothing lazy about that.
