The Truth About Age and Motherhood

Hey Mama-to-be,
Letâs have a real conversation, and then letâs unpack it even more:)
Iâve been watching the comments in our Facebook group lately, and while I love the passion in this community, Iâve also seen some posts that made me stop and say, âOof⌠we need to talk about this.â
Thereâs been a bit of shade thrown at moms having babies âtoo youngâ or âtoo old,â and I just want to lovingly remind us all:
There is no perfect age to become a mother.
Every age comes with gifts, and every age comes with challenges.
What matters most is that you feel informed, supported, and respected for where you are in your journey.
So letâs take a moment today to break it all downâgently, truthfully, and without judgment.
đś Having a Baby in Your 20s
The energy. The bounce-back. The âIâll carry the car seat, the diaper bag, the groceries and the babyâ phase.
đ˘ Advantages:
Your body often recovers more easily from pregnancy and birth
You have a longer stretch of time ahead if you want more kids
Energy tends to be highâlate nights and early mornings are a bit more manageable
You may have fewer age-related fertility concerns
Your brain goes through a kind of early âmotherhood wiringâ that matures you fast
đ´ Challenges:
Financial stability can be a concern, especially early in careers
You might feel like you're missing out on milestones your peers are hittingâtravel, career building, social life
Emotional maturity may still be in development (and thatâs not a criticismâitâs just life unfolding!)
You may encounter others treating you like a âyoung momâ and projecting their own biases
But letâs be clear: if youâre a younger mama, that doesnât mean you arenât capable.
It means youâre doing something profoundâand your strength is real, even if you're still figuring out your path as you go.
đŠâđź Having a Baby in Your 30s
If pregnancy was porridge, your 30s are Goldilocksâ sweet spotâoften seen as âjust right.â
đ˘ Advantages:
You likely know yourself more deeply
Youâve had time to build stabilityâcareer, finances, relationship
Your social circle is often more settled and supportive
Fertility is still strong for many women in their early 30s
Youâre old enough to reflect, but young enough to relate
đ´ Challenges:
Fertility does start to decline after 35 (not overnight, but gradually)
There can be more pressure to âhurry upâ if you want more than one child
Depending on your path, you might feel âbehindâ if your friends already have kidsâor if none of them do yet
Medical professionals might use the term âgeriatric pregnancyâ after 35, which honestly needs to be retired đ
Still, many women find their 30s to be the perfect blend of readiness and resilience.
Youâve lived, youâve grown, and now youâre ready to nurture.
đş Having a Baby After 40
Letâs get one thing straight right now:
Yes, there are real challenges. But having a baby after 40 is not the end of the world. In fact, for many women, itâs just the beginning.
đ˘ Advantages:
Emotional maturity and self-awareness are off the charts
Many older moms have cultivated serious patienceâand thatâs golden in the toddler years
Financial and career stability are often already in place
There's no FOMOâolder moms have done the partying, traveling, and âdipping and doingâ already
They tend to be fully present because they chose this phase, knowing what it meant
đ´ Challenges:
Higher risk of pregnancy complications and certain genetic conditions (which means more testing and monitoring)
It can be harder to conceive, especially without fertility support
Energy levels may not match a toddlerâs 6 a.m. bounce out of bed đ
People may make insensitive comments about your age
But hear this: a joyful, connected, and deeply meaningful motherhood experience is absolutely possible at this age.
You didnât âmiss the windowââyou created your own timeline.
đź What About the Outliers? (Teens & 40+)
To our youngest and oldest mamas out thereâthis partâs for you.
Whether youâre under 20 or over 40, youâre not broken or behind.
Youâre just walking a different path.
If youâre younger, your strength lies in adaptability, energy, and the way motherhood can shape your life with fresh direction. And if Iâm being totally honestâafter spending years building my career and waiting until everything felt "in place"âwhen I finally had my baby, a quiet little thought crept in: âWhy did I wait so long to do this?â
The joy of becoming a mother hit me in a way I wasnât prepared for.
It was deeper, fuller, and more life-giving than anything Iâd ever known.
And yeah, a part of me felt a little bummed that I didnât start sooner.
Not because I regret my pathâjust because the love is that good.
So to any younger mama reading this: dive into that joy.
Donât doubt yourself.
This season is beautiful, and itâs yours.
And if youâre older, your gift is intention, groundedness, and the long view of what really matters.

Letâs meet each other with kindness.
Letâs listen before we judge.
